Pane Maker

laser cut files for a PaneLED

Starting the engine…

Drag to move the art · scroll to zoom · shift-drag to pan · arrow keys nudge 0.1 mm

How it works

  1. Download the blank templates and draw each pane's art in Inkscape, Illustrator, Figma or anything that saves SVG. Strokes are lines; filled shapes are areas. Convert text to paths.
  2. Drop each SVG on its pane. Art drawn on the template stays where you drew it; anything else is fitted to the window and can be dragged, sized and turned.
  3. Pick how each pane is engraved: Line is one laser pass along each line (finest, cheapest), Slot engraves both edges of a line of the width you set (brighter), Area fills it (brightest, costs most).
  4. Fix what the checks flag: engraving off the pane, marks the laser would fuse, line ends that look like breaks, lines crowding a bullet ring.
  5. Export the cut files and order the ten panes in 1.5 mm clear cast acrylic. The zip has SVGs in Ponoko's colours, DXFs, a lit preview and a report.

Pane Maker runs entirely in your browser: the engine is the same Python code as python3 -m panemaker in the PaneLED repository, so the command line and this page make the same files. Nothing you load leaves your computer.
